Revolutionary Road the novel is better!

I thoroughly enjoyed the Richard Yates' novel so I was looking forward to the film. It was a fairly good film but put against other Oscar contenders such as Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire, it felt pretty ordinary. One of the things I noticed was how few people were in the film! Although the central parts were convincing you couldn't help but think that what they were worried about (loss of their dream and ideals) wasn't worth getting really worked up about. Oh and the amount of smoking was unreal as was the amount of time pouring drinks!

Slumdog Millionaire was bound to win with the movies this year. First of all it probably had the most "Oscar-esque" storyline out there, and they did an excellent job promoting the film. Combine that with the actual visual appeal of the cinematography, a convincing cast, and an excellent screenplay and you're pretty much a lock. The American films this year were pretty weak in my opinion, and it seems that a good chunk of the box offices have just been dumping money into the super-hero films as of late.

I'm not really sure as to the movies coming out this year, but I think the box office money will go to Iron Man 2, and we'll see how Johnny Depp and Tim Burton work again with Alice in Wonderland.
